The British Department at ILS has a robust assessment framework that supports student learning and growth. Key elements include:
Formative Assessments:
Throughout courses, students participate in low-stakes evaluations like discussions, quizzes, and group activities.
These help gauge understanding and identify areas for additional support.
Summative Assessments:
At the end of each semester, students complete high-stakes assessments.
These allow students to demonstrate their accumulated knowledge and skills.
Feedback and Grading: Instructors provide detailed, timely feedback using Cambridge grading rubrics.
This supports students in identifying strengths, addressing weaknesses, and developing improvement strategies.
Checkpoint Curriculum (Years 6-8):
The Checkpoint Curriculum covers the core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Science. Students are also required to study the Ministry of Education curriculum and pass exams for Arabic Language, Religion, and National Studies.
Pre-IGCSE (Year 9)
Exams are offered by Cambridge International, covering five core subjects: English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Students are also required to study the Ministry of Education curriculum for Arabic Language, Religion, and National Studies, and pass the Ministry exams.
The passing grade is a C, equivalent to 100% in the Egyptian National system.
IGCSE (Years 10-12)
In Year 10, students study five IGCSE main subjects: English as a Second Language/ English as an Additional Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
They may choose a sixth subject as an option.
In Years 11 and 12, students choose their subjects based on the requirements of the faculty they will join later.
Students in these two years must also pass the Arabic Language and Religion exams of the Egyptian Curriculum.
Overall, the comprehensive assessment approach in the British Department is designed to facilitate meaningful learning, engaged participation, and successful student outcomes.
